What is DV?
DV is a video format used for digital video cameras. Unlike high Compression formats like MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, DV uses only Intraframe Compression (compressing each Frame individually), resulting in a format that's well suited to editing as each Frame can be decoded with no information from surrounding frames. There are a number of variations of DV, including DVCPro and DVCAM.
The Apple iPad can only play video and movie files in MP4, MOV or M4V format. If you want to transfer DV files to your iPad for playback, you need to get a converter that will go from DV to iPad video. The following guide will walk you through the steps to convert DV to iPad MPEG-4 video for viewing on Apple iPad using DV to iPad Converter.
Step 1. Download the latest version of DV to iPad Converter. Install and run it.
Step 2. Click the "File" menu item. In the drop-down list, click "Capture Video from DV..." to start capturing videos from your DV.
Note: Make sure your DV camcorder is connected to your PC. Otherwise, there will be a pop-up dialog of "DV camcorder not connected". Besides, you need to check that your DV camcorder is powered on and set to VCR mode. An IEEE 1394 Firewire Card is required to connect your DV camcorder with your PC to capture video.
Step 3. In the pop-up dialog of "Capture Video From DV", you can preview the video and trim the video (click the "Start Capture" and "Stop Capture" buttons). Click "OK" and video will be captured.
Step 4. Back to DV to iPad Converter, you will find the video you captured just now. From the "Profile" drop-down list, choose iPad MPEG-4 as the output format.
Note: You can also customize a specific profile to meet your needs.
Step 5. Click "Start Encode" to start to convert the video captured from your DV camcorder to iPad.
